CRISPR-Cas9: Reshaping the Genetic Code for a Revolution

In the evening of 7 October 2020, the Nobel Committee announced that Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna have been awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their development of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing method. This landmark technological innovation has been hailed as a major breakthrough in the field of gene editing. Using this technology, the DNA of plants and animals as well as microorganisms can be backed with precise changes and, more importantly, new treatment options for diseases such as cancer, the power of gene editing is making breakthroughs in all aspects of research.
